A nonogram is a logic puzzle. You fill or cross out cells in a grid to reveal a hidden picture. Numbers next to each row and column show how many filled cells sit together, and in what order. This site offers six sizes, from 5×5 to 30×30, plus a colour mode with two or more colours. Every puzzle here has one solution, so you never need to guess. A new daily puzzle appears every day at 00:00 UTC, the same puzzle for every player.
This puzzle has many names. The Wikipedia article on Nonograms says the Japanese graphic editor Non Ishida won a 1987 Tokyo contest. She designed grid pictures from window lights. The puzzle collector James Dalgety saw her work and coined the word 'nonogram'. He then made a deal with The Sunday Telegraph, which ran it weekly from 1990. Readers later voted for the name 'Griddlers' in 1998. Nintendo later used the name Picross for its own game series.

What is a nonogram?
A nonogram is a picture logic puzzle. Numbers next to a grid tell you how many cells to fill in each row and column. Filling the correct cells reveals a hidden picture.
How do I start a nonogram puzzle?
Pick a grid size and open a puzzle. Read the clue numbers on each row and column. Fill the cells you are sure about first. Use the cross tool to mark cells you know are empty.
What do the clue numbers mean?
Each number is the length of one filled block in that row or column. The numbers appear in the same order as the blocks. A gap of at least one empty cell must separate blocks of the same colour.
Why do blocks need a gap between them?
Two blocks of the same colour cannot touch each other. Touching blocks would count as one longer block instead of two. An empty cell between them keeps the clue numbers correct and separate.
Can I guess a cell in a nonogram?
Every puzzle on this site has one solution, reachable by logic alone. You never need to guess. The check tool still finds a wrong guess if you make one.
How does colour work in a colour nonogram?
A colour nonogram uses two to four colours instead of black and white. Blocks of the same colour need a gap between them. Blocks of different colours can sit side by side with no gap.
